Two Boats Sleeping, 2026
Two Boats Sleeping
Encaustic on wood panel
41 × 31 × 3 cm
Two Boats Sleeping emerged at the end of a day while cleaning brushes and wax pots in the studio. Rather than discard the remaining wax, I continued to work the old colours onto a fresh panel, building up layers and texture as I cleaned. As the surface developed, the suggestion of two boats resting on calm water began to emerge.
Drawn from memories of sailboats at dusk, the painting sits somewhere between abstraction and seascape, recalling the quiet stillness of a coastline settling into night.
